Growing Pains and More Snow

Okay, I am about done for the night. twice, I tried to upload four photos with no success. Now I have two pics of our Frosty and I can't seem to delete the extra one. Bear with me while I get this picture posting thing figured out for this Beta blog. Wait a minute...Looks like the extra Frosty pic is gone. I'll upload some pics, the slow way...grrrrr.

In the meantime, it is bedtime.

I will once again try to get the other photos to post. Yes, nothing but snow and freeking cold. Sonia and fam have had it cold and snowy in Victoria ,also. Then Correna wrote to say it was dropping to -42* with the windchill. Brr...don't humans freeze into a popsicle about at -20*? All I know is that when it got that cold, you drove without brrakes, beacuse the brake fluid was pretty much frozen. We drove on an ice-rink all the way home. Everyone was doing about 50.

Hope everyone and their outdoor plants are all toasty. Thanks for the letters and photos, everyone of my dear friends or relatives.. I'll try to get back to everyone sooner or later.

Cheers!

Poor Frosty could hardly stand up with the weight of the snow on his hat. This is after I brushed him off and essentially uncovered him from snow that had him buried. note my little deer are also more or less buried. Posted by Picasa

Let it Snow...

Oh my...winter arrived with a vengence today...blowing snow and cold...a snowfall warning, in fact. I got out and shovelled the back deck off when there was only 2 inches of snow, but I bet there is a half foot of it now..try 15 cm. if you are metric.

Did I mention that Lynn and Rick had us over for a wonderful turkey dinner on Friday night...along with Dick and Anne and Ursela and Barry. Barry heads up the Storytelling Festival held at Proctor everey summer. Sounds like they have already rounded up many story tellers for next year. It will be adult oriented with stories dealing with history as the basis for the festival. Balfour will host a Children's festival in light of the changes. It is all good, as I guess the cost of doing a similtaneous Children's festival was more than the Story telling Festival could bear., or is that bare? I'll have to look that up in my funk and wagnells!

All in all the dinner was great, and Rick cooked most of it, including a delicious make ahead potato dish that was baked in the oven. He mashed the potatoes, added plenty of garlic, cream cheese and sour cream, then baked them up in the oven until they were turning golden on top. Certainly was yummy and saved all that mess associated with last minute mashing of the spuds.

Also, they had a huge pan of baked veggies...broccoli, artichokes, mushrooms, mixed with parmasean and cream, I'd say.
They were layed out in a large shallow pan and then topped with slices of tomatoes and a sprinkle of parmasean. The dish was colourful and yummy and was a smart way to serve up a bunch of people.
We had a lot of laughs and mostly people were still laughing when I returned from the bathroom. Seems that Anne had volunteered me to join her and Lynn on a Polar Bear swim on New Year's Day!
SAY WHAT?????????
I get goosebumps just thinking about it!

Emil dutifully resolved to build a large bonfire, and Dick said he would ply us with brandy!

Sooooooooooo--o-o-o-o-o--o--o-oo-oo-ooo .......
If any brave souls wish to take the plunge with us, it will be at 2:00pm New Years Day on our beach!
Anne has volunteered to have the New Year's party this year! I'll have the "warm up your buns" party after the big plunge!
Oh My!
The thought of plunging will make these next few weeks buzz by.

Today I got nearly all my gifties wrapped. Did I mention that my Christmas shopping was almost all done...the main stuff anyhow.
I am thinking that work will be quite crazy in the next few weeks...32 days till Christmas , someone said,so I want to have all the shopping details out of the way. It will seem strange not to be packing up for our annual trip to Victoria. I can't think about that part of Christmas.

On Friday, Carolyne gave me a preview of her new jewellery!
TO DIE FOR!!!!

If you thought you've seen it all....you are in for a big surprise! Lots of spanky new looks with this very funky whitish sterling silver that has either pearls or natural gemstones, from star sapphires to beautiful citrines, with everything in between. She has bangles and bracelets, earrings and pendants of every size! Not to mention, beautiful full necklaces that are adorable.
Also , Chris has been making up lovely pieces for the store... an Australian opal pendant with a diamond accent, a heart shaped ruby pendant, and a beautiful square blue topaz...in a cushion cut facet. MMMMM....

I'll take a reality check and be happy to sell any of the above items. Good thing there is pleasure in making a nice sale. The good thing about jewellry is that it is light-weight to ship, thus we have had a lot of early shipping shoppers already.

Oh yes, and don't be fooled by those 70% off sale signs at Ted Allen's. His prices are now at regular retail prices. It won't be soon enough when he closes, which probably won't be well into the new year.

Ok, time to go wrap the last ten little doodle-bops upstairs.
Look out your window...Merry Christmas!

Welcome to my New World

I hope you all arrived safe and sound! Not too painful was it? I am embarking on a newly named blog...beaswax. You know the old saying...Mind your own Beeswax?

I thought it reflected what I do most often...jot down a few words, upload a few pics, then let everyone have a go at them. I do, however wish for respect.

Read what I write, enjoy the funnies, the photos and so on, but "Mind your own beaswax "and please don't use what I write for any maligned, malicious or misguided intent. Thank-you.

I do what I do, mostly for pleasure and to keep our family up to date to some degree through photos and news without writing the same blab to 20 different people. I don't have time for that anymore. I hardly have time to blog!
Here is the catch...I like to blog, and I like to do it without worry that someone will be offended or p*ssed off because of what I said or did.

On that happy note, if you are still with me, then set Beaswax to be your new "My Favorite Link" to tune in to moi! Welcome everyone, and please come back if you dare!

* How to do it: while you are at my new website, click on Favorites, or the double Yellow and green Plus Marks if you are running Internet Explorer 7,and add me in your Links . I will then show up on your toolbar or at the end of it in a drop down box if you have a lot of links.

If you weren't aware, Internet Explorer has been upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 . Apparently it is more secure ( a good thing) . Joyce put me onto it, and voila, I am using it and so is she. It wants to give you a Yahoo toolbar and search engine, but once you have the new Internet explorer downloaded, you can turn that Yahoo toolbar off. Just go to "View" and select which toolbars you want to view.
I have "Menu, Links and Google" ticked off, if that is any help. The other security feature is one that prevents other websites from "Phishing"...that is, stealing such info as your credit card numbers by setting up fake sites to request them. You will be alerted to the danger.

I guess the other way to add me, is to drag the toolbar with my blogsite address, to your desktop to create a shortcut right on your desktop. I think you have to hold down the control button while dragging, then release it on the desktop. I'll check that out. ( Yep, it works fine)

So that is about it for tonight.

Happy cruising and let me know what you think. You can still leave a comment...you just have to rewrite the script you see, so that they know you aren't a computer making rude comments.

Good Luck...Love ya and Leave ya!

Really Winter

Silky after her bath and clipping...Looking a little shy from the camera..

Thank goodness I finished my outdoor chores moments before this big Whitey blew in from Nelson. The snowy ice pellets were blowing right up into the balcony.Brrr!

I quickly slammed the basement door and retreated to the cozy house to assemble and sort which Xmas presents I have bought. In fact, it looks like the main ones are accounted for...just a matter of wrapping them up and getting a big box ready to send to my little family as I now call them!

Emil put the snowblower on today and I bathed and clipped poor Silky. She looks like a wisp of her former self, without the extra ten pounds of fur. Good time to do it eh? The day before the big cold front is supposed to move in. It will drop to minus 20* so the weatherman says.

We decided to grab a bite over at Dockers tonight. The roads were wet and at times rain poured down. Strange weather. The parking lot was a sheet of ice and the snow crunchy, so I think the rain was a freak of nature. Anyhow, it was great to sit down and relax for a bit and have someone else do the cooking.

Recipes are Assembled

I'm slowly building this baby, but it seems to be at eleven o'clock at night every time I get around to it...

Anyhow, it looks like I have most of the recipe linmks in order. Next I 'll work on adding my links. Just a matter of seeing which links are still functioning.

I would like to add cute little pics and so on, but first, I need to learn more about that. I think it means that i need my own webspace to host those kind of things. It looks like Shaw gives you a certain amount of space...just a matter of getting it up and running. Lets say it won't happen tonight.

This is the first three day week-end I will have had to spend at home. Today was well spent just baking up a storm and putting out some Xmas decorations on the front deck railing. Sounds a little early, but I am having a huge hen party next Sunday...for Partylite candles. Thus I want everything to look Xmassy..is that a word?

Also, I helped Emil with the hot-tub. It sprung a leak and upon closer inspection, most of the seals were just downright rotten...so he is having to replace all of them... a big job especially when it is pretty cold out. We got half of them done, and maybe tomorrow,we can work on the rest.

okay...bedtime.

I'll try uploading a photo just for the heck of it. OOPs, I see it went to the top. I'll try putting one at the bottom now.

This was what we awoke to on Monday morning... a little skiff of snow. Now it is freezing freezingg frio outside...I guess it is a pre-view of winter!

Happy Hallowe'en! Happy Birthday to Joyce!

I am working diligently to make this blog, but it definately has its ups and downs. So far, all the printing looks pretty huge, but maybe that is a setting on my computer.
In the meantime, i will continue to play and with any luck, have this ready for viewing very soon.
Joyce and I had a great little birthday dinner at the Heritage last night...had a few laughs and enjoyed getting together. Certainly is nice to have a sister so close by.
Until next time...Bye-Bye
