Someone is celebrating early!

Check out Mads in her new birthday suit from her other granny. Cute eh? She looks like a little dancer!..till you see the holey shoes! Those are new too! Very cute! Yes, I can tell it is spring in Nelson when the holey shoes have come out ...They are on every second person, so it must be spring!
I chose my new glasses today... stylin'! everyone will have to wait two weeks until the come in! 'Deb at L'Optique on Baker Street has a fab collection of the latest in frames . So many so, that I had a hard time choosing! I opted for ones about the colour of this font, with clip on sunglasses, like my present ones, so they should do the job and look great too. The rep for this brand of glasses was at the shop and gave me a choice from dozens of samples he was bringing to show Deb.. My lucky day!
Okay, it has been one long day...so off to bed.

Happy Spring

Barb sent these pics of their QT pies, yesterday, and would you look at that weather! Yes, it was snowing she said...just after it was nice and sunny out...hence the sunglasses on little E!

Happy Spring everyone, and lets hope the weather has improved in PR to reflect the fact that it is the first day of Spring today! Thanks Barb, for the weather and kidlet Visuals!

Well, I have a day off tomorrow to get my eyes checked and to get some new glasses...Wahoo! I am getting more blind ,as we speak! Chris maintains that the best plan is to only read or strain your eyes under natural light, not artificial... and thus he doesn't wear glasses. I should have been smarter sooner, perhaps!

So did any of you look up into the sky just after dark last night?

It was amazing to see the new crescent moon , completely backlit by earthshine, and then off to the south was Venus in all of its glory like a spot light in the sky. I will upload my pathetic photo of the event...so use your imagination and pretend it is huge and bright like it was!
A big get well soon wish from all of us, for Roseanne, who recently suffered a heart attack...more common in women, than most people think. We are glad to hear that she is on the mend. This should be a wake up call to all of us" Over Fifty's". Keep up with your check-ups everyone, and eat lots of pyrogies... oops, that should read, abstain from lots of pyrogies!
On another note, it was certainly fun to see Annette at John's at mom's memorial. We had a few great chats and a few drinky-poos together and a few cries together.I'll be the happiest someday when we are living much closer to our kids and grandkids. Thanks Annette for driving all the way up to Vernon! I can't wait for you to come home at Easter!
I must watch Lost tonight to see what goes on now. It seems to coming full circle in the story line. Every week, I think they will reveal all, then by hook or crook, some other dude shows up on that blinkin' island. Next they will find a damn Mc Donalds tucked in a small scale shopping mall, just beyond the jungle, and all of the enemies will be ex McDonald counter people who were re-incarnated after they died from McRonald poisoning. That isn't all that far fetched in the grand scheme of Lost!
And on my last note, w e watched Cacino Royale, last night...Finally. We must be the last to watch it, but we sat on the edge of our seats, and sucked in the entire movie... A buff 007! Lots of action and and all in all, very entertaining. Too bad they gave away the ending right on the cover of the DVD!
Ok, time to grab a piece of the chocolate chip, raspberry /apple streudal and a cup of tea and get comfy for my show.
Have a good one, and beware...I might be looking for red glasses! Ducky idea aye?

Brenda's Fruit Streudal

I thought I'd post it again, since I had so many requests for this easy to make recipe that is perfect for "taking to an event". Any filling, even those canned pie fillings, work very well. Apple and Raspeberry fillings are my favourites.

Brenda's Fruit Streudal

1 cup margarine
1 ½ cups white sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 tsp. Almond flavouring
4 eggs - beat into above, one at a time
3 cups of flour …beat in a cup at a time and mix well. It will be quite a stiff batter.

Spread 2/3 of batter on 10x15 greased or pammed jelly roll pan or cookie sheet that has sides.Or you could use Parchemnt paper to cover the bottom of your cookie sheet. This eleiminates PAM, but makes it a little tricky to spread the thick batter, hoever,it can be done with a little patience.

Spread *prepared filling*over top, and sprinkle with cinnamon, sugar and flour mixture.
Spread remaining batter on top of fruit, as best you can with as much cursing as necessary. A fork may be used to sort of press the fruit into the batter. Don’t worry if all the fruit isn’t covered with batter, as the batter rises up around the fruit when it bakes.
Bake at 350* till cooked . The top will be starting to brown at the corners. If it is still pale in the middle turn the broiler on for a minute and watch it like a hawk, until it starts to brown a tad, then pull it out.

Drizzle **icing** over cake while it is still warm.
Cut into two inch squares. ( It may be frozen in a container with wax paper seperating the layers)

*Fillings*:

1. 5-6 apples ,3/4 cup sugar,1/4 cup flour and cinnamon. ( mix together)
2. any prepared pie filling, such as cherry or blueberry
3. 5 cups of saskatoons or blueberries, 3/4 c. sugar,1/4 cup of flour,cinnamon
4. 5 cups rhubarb chopped small, 1 c. sugar,1/4 cup of flour,cinnamon

5. use any fruit you want ,mixed as above and you may use baker's starch to thicken it instead of flour, if you have access to it. Remember to mix the bakers starch with sugar before adding it to the fruit so it doesn't lump up. Locally you can by the Baker's starch at the EverGreen Market up the Slocan Valley.

**Icing**

1 cup icing sugar
1 tsp. Margarine
1 ½ - 2 tsp. Milk or water
1 tsp almond extract.
Heat in microwave and drizzle over warm cake.
Can be frozen..

* Tonight, I mixed the leftover apple and raspberry filling together, then sprinkled a few chocolate chips on top 'cause I was a little short of filling... Now talk about yummy!

A Celebration of Life

You could call it a week-end of emotions, as we gathered at John's house to celebrate Mom's Life with a gathering of close friends and relatives. It was amazing to see how a beautiful plan came together with the hard work of everyone, but especially Ronda for taking the initiative to create a wonderful DVD , to celebrate mom's life through songs and photos. Photos had been chosen after days of going through old albums by Emil and myself and John and Ronda. Together, the songs were chosen and in the end, it was a beautiful presentation. You know the saying ..."A photo is worth more than a thousand words!" We all watched it together and we cried and laughed and cried some more.We saw pics of mom with her boys, her husband, her granddaughters, her brothers and sisters and her mom and dad. We saw her at birthday parties, at anniversaries,at weddings and holding her baby granddaughters. We saw her in her garden, we saw her in her kitchen, and we saw her laughing. It truly was a tribute to the pillar of our family. Those great times won't be forgotten, and neither will she.

Thank-you so much to each and every one of you who came to pay tribute to mom. Thank-you for flying from afar, for driving through traffic jams and detours, and for taking time out of your hectic schedules to be with us on Saturday. It was a pleasure to laugh and cry and reminisce and see our relatives and friends that we haven't seen for so many years. You all looked terrific and certainly provided us with quite a few laughs as we dredged up old stories of pie fights and water fights, poker games and ball games, of little cousins grown into moms and dads, and no one admitting their age, except that they were either 29 or 39 or 29A or 38J ( thats me)!

Then there was the food...who could resist perogies that Emil and John and Annette cooked up? Even if they were from Costco, they were pretty darn good! We satiated ourselves with food and drink and by 9:00pm most of us were toast! Too bad it is a sad occasion that brings us together. Lets make it a happy one, next time!

Also, thank-you to my new blog viewers..How do you like it so far? You may comment on any posting,at the bottom of the post where it says comment. Just follow the directions.
