The Big Fishermen

Making Sandwiches for the big Derby

Which one to pick??? Something that will catch a great big fish!

Oh Look...we hooked something!!!

I'll get it into the net!

Look, something is on our line... Its a fish," No, Its a Bird!"
Yep,they hooked a Seagull! Brought it right into the boat to remove the hook from its bill.

Chlorophyllum rhacodes (MushroomExpert.Com)

Chlorophyllum rhacodes (MushroomExpert.Com)
Called Lipiota rhacodes, this mushroom is edible, but is also easily confused with a mushroom that gives the most poisonings in the USA every year... Best not to eat it and indulge it with your camera. Thanks to Joyce for looking it up in her mushroom dictionary!
Now here are a a few mushroom jokes...

Did you hear that the French are such mushroom lovers that they eat dried slices of regular button mushrooms with milk in the morning like we eat cereal?.....they call it the "breakfast of champignons".

A woman announces to her friend that she is getting married for the fourth time."How wonderful! But I hope you don't mind me asking what happened to your first husband?""He ate poisonous mushrooms and died.""Oh, how tragic! What about your second husband?""He ate poisonous mushrooms too and died.""Oh, how terrible! I'm almost afraid to ask you about your third husband.""He died of a broken neck.""A broken neck?""He wouldn't eat the mushrooms."

Sonia at the SARS ( Search and Rescue ) Meet and Greet

Enlarge this photo, or look closely to see what the Irish SARS team found in the middle of Beacon Hill Park in Victoria... Look closely...it is on the left with a trophy on top! They came First Place after searching all over Victoria for a most unusual object... Sure as heck,,,they found this parking meter in the middle of the park... Pretty funny eh? This is a group from Ireland who are all on the Coast Guard there.

Here's Sonia with a couple of the Irish boys ...and the winning Parking Meter!
Search and Rescue people from all over the world are convening for this special convention in Victoria.

Know these Mushrooms?

Found in the meadow next to our property, these aromatic mushrooms have dense stocks and have perfect white flesh with fins under the cap in the bigger mushrooms that have popped open. The little mushroom ( about an inch and a half in diameter...is pure white and dense inside, much like a store bought mushroom) .These grow in grass in many of the fields nearby. They just keep on growing until the top of the mushroom is the size of a dinner plate. At this stage, they look and smell good enough to eat, but as we all know...don't eat what you don't know... so I will sastify myself with photos of them for now, unless some knowledgeable person comes to my rescue. They seem to grow in bunches of three or more and are about 5.5 inches to 6 inches tall. They pop out of the grass and are often unseen under the leaves.

Cute as a button mushroom!

Thanks Sonia

Ashley, Sarah, & Maddie

Annette and Sonia

Kaleigh
Thanks Sonia...I borrowed a few pics off your facebook...thought everyone would like to see my girls!
Soooo, it was kind of a dull day at work, until we heard a big crash outside. I looked up the street but couldn't see anything, except for a Neptune truck, parked next to Wait's news, where it usually unloads it's cargo. I din't see people running or anything,so I went back into the store. two minutes later, a customer came in and said that the Neptune truck actually took out the light standard on the corner at Wait's News.
"Oh-Oh!"
When we looked out , there was the firetruck, the city, the police, and numerous lookie-lous, all staring down at the cross walk ,which now was the landing spot for the beautiful heritage light standard which used to have lovely big white globes hanging off it. Now the globes were knocked off and there lay the black light standard, and there was all the wires sticking oddly out of both the conduit on the sidewalk, and the lamp post base, and then there was a circle of uniformed people from every city department, surrounding the casualty of Neptune. Yep, the light post was down, and here we are, all looking at it like a corpse, wondering what the hell to do next....for the next 45 minutes, it seemed.
They finally brought in a crane and lifted the dead lamp post off the street and onto a truck and then they set up neat little three foot high four way stop signs. And thats how the day went in Nelson...a little amusement for me on a dull day.....
Emil roasted the country spareribs with BBQ sauce and made the slad, so I came home to a yummy smelling house and a dinner ready to eat.. All in all , agood day.
Tonight, Annette wrote her big exam up at UVic...I'll be waiting to hear from her. This is torwards her Canadian Financial Planning certification, that will come after one more exam... Good Luck Annette!

Happy Monday!

Joyce snapped this as she was driving, by the looks of it...en route to Golden from Alberta. This is the approach to the new bridge that just opened a few weeks ago.

Here is the new bridge on Highway 1,east of Golden somewheres... Too bad we don't have one of those crossing the lake to Harrop! tee-hee! Thanks Joyce for the photos!

Well, the good news is that the parcel I sent to the kids, arrived today... yippee. I think I'll have to add a signature to it in the future, so someone has to sign for it. I was having a bird, thinking that maybe someone else was enjoying the jewellery!

Not much else happening...It was a foggy start to the day and then it wound up a gorgeous one all day... we can't have enough of these at this time of the year!

Okey dokey...whats new with you? I think it is soon time for bed..even tho, I have ten things I could do. I bought a few new photo frames and have the pics laid out...maybe tomorrow morning I can actually get them together, then work on where to hang them. Joyce also brought me some Ikea frames back from Alberta. I best think about printing out some of those old photos to get those all fixed up.. and then to dream up a place to hang them.... I need more walls!

good night...remember to check out hte Usedkootenays.com site if you have anything to buy or sell.

More pics of Everyone

Thanksgiving at Nadine and Dicks...Note who's carving the turkey! She was trained well!

the ugly roads Joyce faced on her trip to Edmonton...This occurred on the Salmo Creston...a few Tuesdays ago when the weather turned ugly

Kendra and Mackenzie...buddies

Gramma Joyce with Jamie and Ethan...cute eh?
Thanks to Joyce and Lynn for passing along photos for me. Certainly is great to see all the little grandkids, and my own kids of course!
Sounds like Joyce had a pretty nice trip to Edmontonchuk and then to Red Deer and on to Kamloops to visit all the kids and the kidlets.
Makes me want to go see my own kidlets!

So today was another perfect day in the hood. I didn't exactly jump out of bed this morning, but that was ok for a Sunday. I talked to Sonia nd Annette and then to Joyce...That was half the morning gone! Good to catch up on all the news. The bad news was that my parcel to the kids never arrived, even tho the traking number said it did. They didn't even get ANY mail that day! None came on Friday am either, then mysteriously some mail appeared in their mailbox later on, Friday evening. Looks liek their mail may be going to someone else's mailbox. Boo-hiss . I hope they do the right thing and return the package.

I filed a ton of mail today and got rid of 2006 out of my filing cabinet...that alone, allowed me to file the new stuff... Holy cats...just way too much paper. Maybe e-posting the bills to me, might be better. Like why AM I keeping every blinking hydro and telephone bill, anyhow????
Finally I made it out to my garden and fought witht he weeds again. I didn't get it entirely cleared, nor tdid I get through all of the weeds in the strawberry patch, but I did enough to allow me to cover the whole garden in new black plastic, plus I netted a few more potatoes. Had those for my Thanksgiving dinner tonight...the one I missed while being away last week-end! This wasn't exactly a giant turkey dinner, but it was roasted chicken with McCubbins stuffing, fresh made cranberry sauce, turnip , mashed potaotoes and gravy and som Pillsbury do-biscuits. Emil made the salad and although it was late, we did enjoy the yummy dinner. I put the (made) stuffing down in the bottom of a large casserole dish...sort of heaped it in the middle, then split the chicken open down the middle of the back, and layed it over the stuffing . I added some water, then roasted it,always making sure there was some water in the bottom of the casserole so that the stuffing wouldn't burn up. In about an hour, it was all cooked and yummy.
Ok, time to go have a bath in some 2nd Nature Muscle soak... same remedy I suggested Morgan use... He had a little incident today that netted him some scrapes and bruises. Luckily he didn't break any bones, but I guess he is a hurting puppy. The Muscle soak is awesome...think I'll do that now...Swing the tv around so I can catch the end of Desperate Houswives while I soak!
