Busy Busy

My planters are coming along nicely..petunias, ivy geraniums and trailing lobelia

An orange lily that I thought was going to be the yellow one that Correna gave me...fooled me!

My garden jungle

How is this for a shot?

The honey bees were enjoying the poppies. Unfortuantely, I yanked out most of the poppies today before they burst their seed pods...From one corner of the garden, they have migrated clear across to the other side and seem to be spreading faster than I would like.

Partners/Captain and the Admiral

Look close and you'll see the ferry nearing the Harrop side.

Emil, Tibo,aand Carolyne...

Another orange lily

Perhaps this is the yellow one that Correna gave me... Beautiful eh?

End of pics and onto the Newscast...

Patricia asked me to switch Saturday with her ,so she could have it off, so I had Friday off for a change.

Nice.

I tidied up and then prepared my dinner for Chris and Carolyne ( my bosses) and their kidlets, Tibo and Mirabelle.

The day was a hot and humid one that turned a trite windy by the time they arrived. It looked like a storm, but it never materialized beyond wind and a few raindrops. That was fine, we ate inside and enjoyed BBQ'd salmon and Perogies, that Emil helped me make last Sunday. I made a light fruity salad with torn up Romaine on a platter, then a can of drained mandarin orange pieces, and a cup of fresh picked raspberries, topped by pecans that I had glazed in brown sugar and butter. Over top, I poured a raspberry vinagrette. Everyone seemd to love it,and the perogies, so that was good. The kids dug right into the perogies...yum. I had a few of the leftovers for dinner tonight...still good.

Emil roasted the veggies for me on the BBq and then the salmon. All was very good.

We were going to do a bonfire for the kids after dinner, but the wind was still up,and by the time we finished desert, it was nearly 9:30. Everyone packed it in for the night.

Then I worked Saturday am with Carolyne. She changed a ton of jewellery around after we got rid of our old long gold case, and rearranged the gold pieces into two tall glass cabinets that I washed inside and out to make them all very clean and sparkley. The gold looks lovely and we just need to refine the positions of the lights and all will be tickedy boo. Well, it would be tickedy boo if the planned air conditioning every happened..so far it was 85* most of Saturday...hot and sticky. I guess that will prepare me for Vegas in August!

What is with these wide spaces that have evolved???

I met Joyce after work and we toured Touchstone's Museum one more time to look at the old photos of the Columbia River. It was brought up from the States, along with paintings of over 100 life sized ,cut-out fish that hung from the ceiling. Everything from Steelhead, to trout...all the fish that inhabit the Columbia from start to finish. They were handpainted by Artists from Oregon, who made them very true to life!

After the museum, we settled into the Library at the Hume for a cold beer and some appies to satiate us. Yum, the calamari was perfect, as were the terryaki wings...Nice thing is that the food is hot when they bring it to you . We also had the artichoke dip, but we agreed they overdid the dip with a little too much currey spice. I prefer it without the currey at all, for that matter. In any case, it filled up our little tummies, and we thoroughly discussed our trip to Vegas...Thursday will be see the sites and a show, and Friday will be shopping and Saturday will be the trip to the Grand Canyon. I am trying to decide which tour company. I read a bad review about hte one I slected, but a a woman from Vegas was just on it and said it was awesome...so what to do?

Today , I attacked the laundry, first thing in the am, then had a yap with Sonia and Annette. Annette is in planting mode and has decorated under the back deck with hanging baskets and flowers... She will make it into her little oasis before long...way to go girl!

I finally made it down to my garden to tie up my tomatoe plants and weed out my poor looking beans. Maybe they will perk up, but I think they require more Miracle grow! They are totally yellow. Well, they are yellow beans, but hte plants look pretty wishy washy. Lynn is already picking beans, and tomatoe and zuccini... I picked a bucket of raspberries and had a bowlfull with my breakfast. They weren't too huge, but still tasty. Maybe I'll give them a shot of Miracle grow too! Miracle grow everything when in doubt!

Just when I was about done weeding , a bit of thunder started and then bolts of lightening were going straight down to the mountain above Sitcum creek, and sure as heck a couple of fires shot straight up, followed by smoke. The good thing was that there was a big rain cloud on the heels of the lightening and I think the rain extinguished the fires, as they seemed to be right out, by the time the storm passed.

After Emil and I had a liquid refreshment on the deck, and a bit of dinner, we decided to go for a little boat ride to try outr emil's new "kicker" motor. I must say it purrs like a little kitten. We did a slow stroll around the bay to break in the motor... Nice way to relax at the end of a busy day. I should say the nicest way to relax is to take a twenty inthe hot-tub...so we did that and now I am ready for beddy. Emil was there long ago.

So enjoy my garden pics. I am praying that the deer don't inhale my lillies. I removed the net today after freeing so many buds that were ingrown into the net.
Have a great week...and I am keeping one thing secret.

This looks like a useful website.
You can watch a video on how to make your own evite, at this website..,Video.about .com,where you can also watch other videos on how to make and do other things, such as wrap a present or make your own wedding bouquet.
Ok...bedtime now..I've lost my mind.

Frozen Chicken Halal (Ceccon Export E Import Repres. Ltda, Brazil)

Frozen Chicken Halal (Ceccon Export E Import Repres. Ltda, Brazil)
This is kind of funny...I started off on a link to sellers of shoes and went to a Brazil site, and before you know it, I found a supplier of Sandles and Frozen chicken. Isn't there something odd about that combination?
The other sites I came across, specialized in selling used clothing. One company won an award for the highest amount of trade in used clothing, auto parts, tires etc...to Africa of all places...and they netted over five million dollars last year!
Another company, from British Columbia, that employs five people, netted over a million selling those charms or dibets, that go into the holes of holey shoes... I think I am in the wrong industry...
To be truthful, I heard that the used clothing industry is huge, so huge that there is no way of tracking how much used product is being sent out of Canada. So when you take your old duds to the thrift store, beware of which one, as someone is making a lot of dough from you and me!

Hot Howdy

Today and the next few days will be a test of your heat tolerance ability. It was a scorcher today in Nelson, but is expected to rise to 40* both tomorrow and Friday. Chris bought another fan and extended the ducting on the little air conditioner that he brought from home. We kept the lights turned off for most of the day and all in all, people were walking in and saying that it was cooler in the store. The temp eventually rose to 82*, but that is 3* less than the day before ,when it topped 85* by five o'clock.. I suspect that air conditioning will be a pipe dream for us, but in the meantime, the current solution is temporarily working. ...especially if I am at the back of the store, where it si the coolest. We'll see how things go...
something to remove the humidity would be the ideal answer.

So lots of things are happening. In fact, the days are breezing by so quickly that before I know it, we'll be heading down to Vegas for C's big 4-0 birthday. I can't wait! So many of us will be there, that it will be a blast. In the meantime, we are still looking to book a flight out to the Grand Canyon...just can't decide on the right one. Sonia is the senior researcher in that department, so I am counting on her to come up with a great plan! I am getting excited!
I think Lynn is already packed!
It will be a fun time with so many of us there at once. Any recommendations for entertainment ? Let me know, tho I am a bit of a magic show junkie...but anything will do...just a matter of getting out to do it.
So , has everyone joined up to Facebook now? It is the coolest way to connect with friends and relatives, and has an easy upload for photos...makes blogger's system look like a snail. In fact, the whole facebook system works so well, that I might have to ditch the blog in favour of Facebook!
In any case, it has opened up a whole world of reconnected friends...especially for my daughters.
The people I look for , have dropped off the face of the earth. One good thing to do, is to add your maiden name to your name for ease of people finding you.

Other happenings, include dinner at our house for the Chris and Carolyne and family on Friday.
I am working on a peach desert, my friend told me about.

I am off Friday, and then I will work for Patricia on Saturday instead. On Sunday, Emil wants to try out his new Kicker motor, so maybe we'll take the boat for a spin.

Now my raspberries are starting to ripen,s o it will be raspberry heaven in the days to come. I weeded out a bunch of nettles out of the raspberries tonight. Just to make picking a little easier.

Then there is a surprise event on the 28th, and then Sonia will be here with the kids(and pooch) and it will be "Look-out Vegas Baby!"

Okey dokey...bedtime has come and gone...so I am heading to bed.
Parden me if I slow down on the blogging. Summer is always busy, so my posts will be sporadic... Check facebook to see my minute by minute updates..ha-ha!

Happy Everything....

Of course, each time you upload these photos, they wind up in total reverse order...So "Happy Greg and Sue",
Sonia's school friends ( and Sue is her co-worker). They gave us a call Sunday morning to say they were on their way from the BC girls' softball game in Salmo, where their neice played ball for the past few days. They pulled in their trailor and parked overnight. We had a fun time on the beach, drinking a few Carona's while we sat in the lawn chairs that were parked in the lake. Everyone, but emil went for a swim ( tho he had his feet in) and Sue and Greg's kids built sandcastles and played with the "Beamo" on the beach and in the water.

Sue and her son, Carson... the nicest 10 year old little guy that I have ever met!

Their daughter "Becka"

Emil showing Carson how to light it up with one match! First fire in the year. Good thing Emil shoveled out the firepit, earlier in the day! Sue brought the S'more makins, so we dined on those for desert!

A nice pic of Pete at Bill's memorial dinner on Saturday. We had a beautiful meal and had a good chance to reminice about Bill. The sorry thing was that Bill never once had this many people over for a big BBQ...especially when it included all of HIS family.

Happy Emil! Oh yes, Happy Birthday to John...his was the big 07/07/07.
Just think, Morgan's will be 08/08/08, next year! All of those eights are supposed to be pretty lucky!

Some of the gang at Bill's on Saturday. That is Bill's son Arnie, with his arm up, and next to him in the lime shirt is his sister Debbie and her daughter.

Arnie just showing me that actually, he is cooking nothing.

But here is what he did cook, after he did the steaks...Yum-Me!

Happy Birthday to Francoise...my long time friend!

Happy Kendra adn Virginia!

Kendra giving me the big boo-ya!

Happy Birthday to Emil...Kendra helping to blow out his candles

Don't ask what happened to the sides of the cake. Lets just day that Pudding put into the middle of the cake, doesn't really hold firm in the middle. It just squeezed out and rendered the icing useless as far as sticking to the cake..hence the big smounch on the sides...Oh well, it tasted pretty good!

The Big Smoosh!

Thanks Annette for sharing this moment by moment photo collection of Ronda getting inducted into the family! Too bad the opening shot was missed...FYI, it was a large corner chunk of black forest cake loaded up with icing...and delivered by Carl... I heard that Auntie Sophie was close to getting it, herself!

Happy Canada Day! Thanks Lynn for making it so special for me!

Oh my gosh...talk about fireworks! The neighbours have about ten different units staying on their property and each one must have brought ten different fireworks to set off. Althought they started last night, they still had a hundred or so to go tonight... and yes, some were the paltry red and green Roman candles, but many of them were the sizzle-explode type. Just the kind Silky hates. She has been so scared out her little fur coat, that she is panting like a race horse and trembling like a leaf ..I should say shaking like a leaf. I gave her some benadryl and she still hasn't settled down....poor mutt...must of thought someone was shooting a gun at her. Good thing we opted out of another bonfire night at the neighbours. She would have chewed her way into a cupboard, had she been alone.

So back to Canad day week-end... Cuz Lynn came out...bearing fruitful gifts of wonderous foods, playful duckies, and my favorito, a York patty! Yum...plus a zuccini from her garden! I am impressed...my zuccini is one inch tall. We cooked up a mess of frozen trout on the BBQ and We used these new aluminum foil BBQ trays to do our veggies and potatoes on the BBQ, before we did the fish. We sliced veggies like onions and green and yellow peppers and Lynn's new zuccini, and sprinkled them with Greek seasoning and salt and pepper and a little olive oil, then tossed them into the tinfoil BBQ tray which we had sprayed with Pam first. For the Potaotoes, we sliced them lengthwise and put them in a tupperware with a little water, then nuked them just until they could be pierced with a fork. Then, I drained them ,aqnd sprinkled them with Greek seasoning and a bit of olive oil, then put them into a seperate tinfoil tray . Both trays went into the BBQ and sizzled away for 15 or 20 minutes. Lynn tossed and turned them occasionally and before we knew it, they were browning up. The potaoes began to look like french fries and started to lightly brown on the outside. Lynn had brought Corn on the cob, so between the corn, the roasted veggies, the trout and a salad , I don't think we could have consumed another drop of food!

It was all delicious!...So much so, that Emil even ate a few of the roasted veggies!

Later last night,w e packed ourselves up with chairs and beverages, and headed over to the bonfire that Bill's kids had built in the huge firepit at Bills. The wood was a little damp,s o it didn't exacly burn right away, but eventually, Ashley dipped into Bills stash of chopped firewood, and that got it going once and for all.

Andy and Kathleen, our summer neighbours ,four doors to the east of us, cmae over to join the festivities. Well, we talked about Bill, we learned some Physic stuff from his neice, and Andrew kept us amused with witty jokes...his favourite is to try to demote me to a Cee from a Bee! It was good to see them again, and Bill's daughter, Debby and her Hubby were seriously probably have more fun on that beach, then they ever did in all the time that Bill was alive...another bittersweet moment. So sad , if you look at it that way.

Oh-oh... I just fell asleep.

Okay, I'll have to continue the saga of the week-end tomorrow, as I think that I cannot keep my eyes open anymore. Good night. Have a great day off tomorrow.

Another Wonderful Catch...

Congrats Dick...Lynn said that you took first place in a fishing derby and look at the beauty you caught...18 pounds... hmmm Emil will have a little catching up to do!

Does the tu-tu look familiar? Funny how these things have a life of their own. Looks like little Miss G. is having fun grocery shopping...but what is that Brown furry thing she found on the shelves?!!!

Our drive out of Surrey on Sunday...raining like crazy!

This was the happy couple before Ronda got inducted into the family... we'll soon have photos of that event..

Yep, thats Little Peter doing a little Cooler Diving.. He was going to the bottom!
BTW..he is only about 39 inches tall,so don't mistake that for a tall cooler! Lookin' good Pete!

Just thought I'd add a few more photos of the 25th and also of Dick and his big fish... Maybe Emil will catch one that size some day! Was that in the ocean or in a lake?
Looks like this week-end could be another fishy one, if the weather holds out. Lynn hopes to come over and do a little Canada Day celebrating in Harroponia!

Okay...time for bed...seems like I am wide awake at 6:00am, even if I go to bed at half past midnight. Speaking of bedtime...keep your eye in the sky early on the week-end, particularly Saturday night just as the moon is rising. It will be at it's lowest point in the sky and will appear giant sized as it rises...called a SummerMoon Illusion. It is only an illusion, but a good one.
Nighty night and have a great Thursday!
Sonia is getting all ready for their big 20th grad reunion on the week-end. See her pics on
Facebook. This is the fastest growijng website, and lots of fun. Join up if you haven't already!
