Wildfires of Note - Protection Branch - Ministry of Forests and Range - Province of British Columbia

Seriously folks, there is a nasty fire ( 200) hectares raging in Kelowna on the Glenrosa side of the valley. 4000 homes have been evacuated, and it has skipped across highway 97 and is heading over the Goat ridge, down Gelatly way towards the lake. Lots of homes up in there, and lakeside is where we used to stay at the farm when we had the Stanali cup. Now that is a big huge condo development. Sounds like it all stands to go up in smoke. The mill has fire in the log storage area and the big family home ( Mill owner?) above, is completely destroyed.
This is where is gets dicey. Just up the hill from that is where Mildred and Phil live...on Morningside, ...just a stone throws away form where Sandra and Leo had their home, on Yorkton.
Up the hill further, another mile or two is where Warren and Kim live. Phew...all sounds very dicey. I hope they are safe and no one loses their home. It sounds like the fire is also heading towards Peachland and has the power out there..Terry and Shannon have their summer home in that area, so again I worry for all of our rellies and friends. I think I'll try the tv and see if there are any updates or news happening.

On the happier side,w e attended The Blessing Ceremony of Russel and Angie today and it turned out very nice indeed. I am happy I went! I'll fill you in with photos tomorrow.
Good night all, stay safe and extinguish all of your fires!

And then there was weather!

Returning from Trail , just before Thrums, on Tuesday

And the sky darkened!

At Lynn's, it was nice and sunny!
Lynn's gardens are so phenomenal, that I wish they were mine! She was picking her beans today! Picking! Picking!.. It will be 2 weeks before I see that! Her tomatoes are picking size ,,,just green... and mine are like marbles! Also green!

Love's Lace lost, ot amaranthus... call what you will, but Lynn has a few hundred of them growing everywhere! The babies she planted in my garden aren't this tall yet, but they are coming along. I had these in when we lived in Quebec, and their lovely chenille tail flowers grew three feet long!

We had a little visit with Lynn and Bob after I visited the doc to have my splints/stints removed... Zoweee! A little gory ( the removal) ,but boy oh boy...can I breathe! I don't recall ever having two freeways of oxygen such as this in my nostrils! The surgery was a success! Yipppee. I still have some healing to do, but the good news is that each nostril can breathe, unrestricted for the first time in my life! Woot Woot!
First it was sneezing and now it is yawning... Once I hit the pillow last night, I yawned no less than 20 times! It has started again after five yawns, I have tears running down my cheeks...
I'm tired, but not THAT much!
Well, maybe I am... I just fell asleep and had a mini dream.
I think I will call it a night...Love ya all!

Garden Bounty/Ronda John's visit.

My new pansies are alled "Frizzle Sizzle" Cute eh?

My garden looks pale in comparison to Lynn's, but nevertheless, it is producing greens, onions, carrots, chard and today I said bye bye to the Spinach.

Ronda in my Garden of Eatin'/Weedin'

Emil and John and Ronda all went golfing on Sunday... Bea went to bed and took a nice long nap!

Babies in the Yard

I should say Babies eating the flowers off my little plants out front..

One last look before heading to the field

On the move

Cedar Waxwings flitting around.. I call them Little Bandits!

Well, in case you hadn't heard, I had some nose surgery last Monday...no , not to tweek the tip or anything, just to improve the breathing. ( Deviated septum improved, tuberants dremelled off, sinuses opened up) A week later and I am still not breathing through my nose.!(That is why I am on the computer at 7 in the morning!)

A Big Fat HA!

However, today could be my lucky day. I return to Dr. Cook in Trail and he will remove the plastic splints/stints that are up each nostril and then I will let you know if the big sinus headcold that I feel like I have is due to my nose tubes or a real cold.

What is the worst thing you can do after nose surgey?

Did you say "SNEEZE?"

Well, yes, I have sneezed a hundred times and it is the worst thing a person could want to do after a fresh nose job. I won't go into the gory details, but I have learned to redirect my sneeze straight out of my mouth... pity anyone within ten feet!

Like I said, once these tubes are out of my schnoz, perhaps the breathing will commence, and then maybe the sneezing will cease.

Thank-you for all the get well wishes from everyone. I feel I am on the road to recovery now...ha-ha...thats a bit of a lie , but I feel generally not so wiped out and even made gingersnap cookies yesterday yum! I did get a reaction, I think to the antibiotics. I should have remembered to take some Probiotics at the outset, but completely forgot... Now my prescription is all finished, so with some luck, my inards should begin feeling better. I can't complain about knocking off a few pounds with a high colonic I didn't order!

The rainy days of late haven't made me feel too bad about missing anything. Unfortunately, I mostly feel like going for a nap every afternoon, so that wastes a good three hours of each day.

You would think that being home would give me an opportunity to do a lot of things that need doing. I see all that needs doing but, I just couldn't do much at all due to a number of issues with my nose. Long story short is I hope it is all for good, which I can't tell right now. It wasn't the most pleasant thing to go through, but everyone says it will be well worth it. I guess most surgeries are like that.

I have to give a big thank-you to all of the nurses and staff at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital , and my sweet Emil, who tended to me after the surgery. I'll thank the doc when I know it has worked!

Happy Birthday Emil! Happy Birthday Deb!

Joyce paid us a nice visit on Saturday too... Here, I was making her wait for lunch...

Arriving in their pontoon boat, Sandra and Leo and Laverne joined us for a few hours on the beach, in the sweltering sunshine, on Saturday. One thing I can say, is that it was one heck of a hot weekend and the Lime Bud light never tasted too bad at all!

The birthday pair... both have their big day on July 5th! Happy Birthday , you two!

Annette and her daddy!

Annette toasting up her dinner!

The Divas of the neighbourhood! Deb, Moi, Faye, and Alissa

The Rowdy's of the hood...Mike, Emil, Ashley, and Randy!

Cheers to the birthday kids! This was a poison Granada rum... not really poison, but lethal enough to propel a jet... Note, my glass has only one tsp. in it... thanks Ashley for trying to get us all drunk!

Long story here, but Ashley and Deb got Emil his blue chair that he has always been pining for, ever since Ashley had painted their other blue chair, green... got that? So now, Emil has his very own blue chair! Lucky guy! Thanks, Deb and Ashley! And look! Annette was here to share in the fun and celebrations on Saturday. In fact, it was Deb's birthday also!

Emil gets his favourites...jube-jubes, and a nice Seatle Seahawks ball cap

Annette is cracking up!

Our newest neighbours, Faye and Randy ( white and black) came over for the fun!

Happy Canada Day

Here's my funny Canada Day cake... a little tall on the maple leaf part there.. but time was running out,and the icing was sogged with strawberries, so it had to stay as is. Funny enuf, everyone got it! So Happy Canada Day everyone! I hope you enjoyed the best weather and festivities in years, just as we did!
Annette baked the yummy cherry chip cake from a mix last night, then I poked holes in the top of the cake this morning and onto that , I spooned my jello mixture. It was a small packet of jello mixed into a half cup of boiling water, then left to set till it started to gel. I then made sure it dripped into the holes I made with a skewer, about an inch apart all over the top of the cake. I popped the cake back into the fridge to set the jello a little more before applying the icing. The flavour, in the end was an amazing jolt of raspberry in the cherry chip cake. Topped with strawberries, it gave one's mouth the full berry experience!

Annette, before we waded out to the dock. Note the water is coming down, but our water-oops firepit is still full of water.
This is the waterfront side of the huge house that is being built below the highway, just before you approach Longbeach road. It is quite amazing... exposed beams, agragate concrete and even a littel character in a suit of armour guarding the front deck... all very architecturally perfect.. It was fun to see the lakeside,as the back doesn't reveal too many details from the road side. Nice big yacht parked there as well...

The new Budlight with Lime... pretty tasty but one or two is about enough before a person switches to real beer!

Dad and daughter just hangin'

The gals at one table and the men were on the lower deck... Can't say it was the best arrangement, but it works for us old folks!

Peter BBQ'd his yummy hamburgers and everyone brought something so it was a delicious pot luck dinner! Not to mention three deserts...the Canada Day cake, a wonderful apple cake in a bundt pan ,topped with a hot caramel sauce, ( by Deb) and Linda brought her famous Plum pie with a cobbler type crust on top... yum!

Peter, ever the happy cook!

It was a fun day and now we are all heading to bed with full tummies... Hope yours was great too!

Look who's Home!

Emil picked Annette up at Kelowna airport late Saturday night( her flight was delayed) and the two arrived home as the sun was peaking over the Purcells! Still, we needed a cup of tea and some toast and had a little blab, before everyone fell back into bed around 6:00 am. Even myself, who usally gerts up pretty early, had to snooze late. Emil and Annnette... later still.
I haued me gardening tools to the garden and did a few weeds until I heard Annette awake... then next thing I knew, Ashley was over saying that Deb had lunch on the beach...and we were invited... It was blistering hot out, so who could resist?

As you can see, the water is still a little on the beach, but it is going down daily! Emil and Annnette spent most of the afternoon there and I returned to my garden to get a little accomplished!

Later we all reunited for dinner, but not until Annette and I both took a dip in the lake to cool off. It was Freezing!!! I had ice cubes forming on every folicle!

More of just sitting around in the heat , on the beach! Annette will see a noticeable change in her skin colour this morning!

Then sadly, last night we had word, that Lawrence's son, Christopher was in a bad car accident at Playmore junction. He was in Nelson hospital with a neck brace and maybe chest injuries... apparently quite a few cars were involved. I'll see whats on the news today and what Lori reports... Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris and everyone else in the accident.
