Hola from Cuba

Ok, the internet world is frustrating so this is it for the duration of our stay... The sun is shining and it is time to hit the pool... took me ten minutes to get this far on my blog...slow slow slow! Anyhow, we are having a wonderful time...the weather is perfect,s o is the beach...a crystal blue ocean to swim in and lots of palapas huts on the beach for shade... and cold beer any time you want it. We did a lovely tour of OlD HAvana on Saturday... the architecture is amazing and it si good to see they are starting to restore some of the buildings as many require it... the people are friendly and the landscape interesting...a lot of volcanic rock everywhere...on the beaches..and here, in the flowerbeds at the resort. The flowers and gardens and trees are beautiful on the property here. We have booked a catamaran trip on Saturday and will go to a white sand beach and also be able to swim witht he dolphins...long as no one confuses me for one of them! Ok...signing off and heading for the pool, and maybe the swim up bar...it is always open! Lov3e ya all and wish everyone was here for a bigger party,t ho we've met some wonderful folk...mostly from right across Canada!

Hello from Snowy Vancouver

Happy 40th anniversary to Emil and I...today was our big day in snowy Vancouver.
Our trip down was uneventful...although there were many cars in the snowy ditch over the Hope Princeton. It was mostly sheer ice with gravel here and there. When the gravel thinned, that is where the cars went off the road...probably driving too fast.
We arrived at Stan and Ali's in a rain storm, that was coming down as snow in the higher levels. There was evidence of it this morning when we drove up to Port Moody to visit Emil's cousin, Terry. Scott and Terry's mom, Auntie Vi, recently passed away, so we paid a visit to give our condolences. It is a hard thing to lose a mom, especially when she wasn't all that old..only 69. Scott and Terry and families will miss her a lot. Terry lives way up a mountain above Port Moody and it was seriously snowy. The thing is that the houses are so close together, that no-one has anywhere to move the snow to,so it is just piled miles high between houses and onto the street.
I was glad we didn't meet any traffic trying to get out of his neighbourhood. Due to weather conditions, they will hold a Celebration of life sometime after the snow abates.

Emil and I did a little shopping, then came back to Stan and Ali's and then we all went out for a Vietnamese dinner in Richmond. It was soooo delicious...Lots of Prawns and veggies in the big soup, and we had orders of both spring rolls and salad rolls, then rice and chicken... All was very delicious and filling. Towards the end of our meal, we noticed the wind picking up and the rain pelting sideways ...Brr... It was miserable out!
We returned home, then Stan and Ali left to go curling. Within fifteen minutes, all of their curling partners were calling to say they were not going to go curl...the rain had turned into giant snowflakes that Emil and I didn't even notice. Stan and Ali returned, saying that traffic was all stopped up and they had no choice but to turn back as the roads were a slimey mess.
This is not encouraging in light of the fact that we are leaving to Cuba bright and early in the am. We are now praying for rain to wash the snow away so we can make it to the airport without any trouble.
Hokey dokey...nice chatting... I painted my toenails and fingernails...repacked and re-organized,s o I guess I am as ready as I will ever be... keep your fingers crossed that the old plane takes off... I'll keep you posted and let you know how things went in a few days...Love ya all...keep warm...

More pics before I fall off my perch

Accident at one mile on the way home tonight...lots of fire trucks and tow trucks and police. I suspect that someone went over the bank. The roads were like sheets of ice in some parts...the part where the four tires touch the pavement!

Glorius sun lighting up the mountains around 8:00 this morning!

Driving sown our road towards the sun

Just nearing Anne's farm... Beautiful , this morning! Thought I'd share!

Happy New Year!

Icky snowy roads that Joyce travelled on...looks like leaving Nakusp..

Joyce stopped in on her way back from Kamloops to see Auntie Mary...who was pretty happy to have her visit! Auntie had a big birthday party on the 24th...Sounds like it was fun with all the family around...You look great, Auntie!

Two winter cutie pies!

Joyce was a brave soul who took off early Boxing day morning to drive up to Kamloops to see Derrick and BArb and the kids... oh...check out the photo...looks like an extra baby in Barb's lap! Congratulations to all...We can't wait!

Yep, this is a helicopter alright...a Thai military helicopter that someone bought for quite a few millions and was having it shipped over to Canada, where it will be restored for quite afew millions more. My friend, sent me these pics from the port in Delta where the ships come in with all sorts of strange cargo... and this ship was HUUUUUUGGGGGGE! Thanks for the photo...oh yes, apparently one of the pilots of the helicopter lost his head when the door slammed shut on it, causing pilot Number 2 to crash onto the aircraft carrier...hence the damaged copter...and possible reason for its sale...

Discharging the helicopter from the ship's hold.

The giant cargo ship

So thats it for me tonight...have to get some beauty sleep for the big party tomorrow night over at Janice and Gord's...ringing in the new year and all...Maybe Emil will be the New Year's baby this year! Ha-ha...I don't seriously think so! So have a great time tomorrow night and we'll talk to you after the Polar Bear dip at Janice and Gord's on New Year's day! Whew ! This year is going to go out with a bang! Then we are off to Vancouver and Hola to Cuba on Monday... two weeks in the sun...two weeks in the sun...tada tada tada!

And we aren't the only ones!!!! Sonia has booked a trip with her friend Michelle to guess where??? St Lucia. WOW WOW WOW! Nothing like spending a week or so sailing around those tropical isles on a catamaran! Whoooo doggies! I went on one last year in the Dominican and it was a blast...especially when they get moving... It will be so awesome for you, Sonia...take your camera and lots of sunscreen. I don't think bugs will be a problem... Holy travellers! Our family is chock full of them! A catamaran...that is terrific... I am sooo happy for you!
Nighty night...just going to look that up on Google earth!

Are we having fun yet??? Bruschetta

Come Emil...I didn't lick your face yet!

Lynn...OUTSTANDING in the snow

Happy to be outside in a heat wave...+2 or so!

Here's KAleigh...beautiful granddaughter.. sweet photo...just need one a little larger now! ...and how about one of MAddie??? I missed you both a lot this Christmas... just not the same.

Lynn drove over in the aftermath of the snowstorm on Saturday. I met her in town and we plugged along back out to HArrop. Just as we turned the corner to go down our street, a car was stuck ...out to more than the middle of the road which was still buried in nearly two feet of snow! I plowed on by the stuck car and Lynn followed. The best thing to do was to keep the momentum up to get past Stucky, and then all down our road. It was a mess of deep snow with a couple of goat trails that didn't match up to our sets of wheels. We made it and that was the most important. At least Emil had the driveway cleared.

Lynn was a doll...bringing all sorts of yummies and especially nice was this yummy can of bruschetta mixture( from Wal mart) ( chopped spiced tomatoes) that could be spread on toasted slices of baquette. You brush the bread slices with olive oil first, then toast under the broiler, then spread on the brushetta mixture ( we added a bit of balsamic vinegar, and some melted pesto, and a few more italian herbs and sliced black olives) then topped each with some grated mozzarella and grated parmesean cheese. Once broiled for a few minutes, the cheese melts and the tomatoes heat up and they taste delicious... We ate them for appies and later we had them again after about 20 rounds of Mexican Train with Deb and Ashley! Also Lynn brought ou these little appies made from wonton wrappers that you bake in a muffin cup. They come out lightly browned and crisp and can be filled with most anything. We just poured in some salsa and enjoyed them like a large natcho chip. Lynn filled some with pork sausage to serve at her party... Simple to make and tasty and crunchy... all good. Thanks Lynn for bringing something new to the table!

After a late night of Train and general yapping, we didn't get off to a very early start. We drank a few coffee while watching the new DVD I got Lynn for Christmas of Celine Dion in concert at Vegas ! It was good! Afterenjoying a hearty ham and scrambled egg and mushroom breakfast, we doodled around a bit, then headed out for a walk while the sun poked its head out, and the skies cleared of clouds. A big "whitey" was heading our way from Nelson at the time Lynn decided to leave. Nothing much materialized except some sleet for ten minutes. She said the roads were in better shape going home, despite the additional four inches of snow overnight! One can never tell what either the roads or the weather will be like!
The doggies had fun in the snow, that is for sure!
Well, I better go to bed...it is back to work after a well earned four days off. With luck , there won't be too many exchanges!
In the meantime, I have started to pack my suitcase, because believe it or not... WE ARE GOING ON TRIP! Emil booked us an all inclusive to Veradero... and it is coming up fast! Thank-you to my sweety! I guess after forty years, we ought to celebrate just right!
And we aren't the only ones going on a trip... Joe and Correna leave in less than 12 hours for the Galapagos, but with a stop to Cuzco ,via Lima and a walking trek to Machu Pichu in Peru. They will love the sights there... jsut beware of the altitude... I think all the names of the Incan ruins were thought of in a moment of puking from Altitude sickness.. Saxhey Womannnnn.wheh! Phlehw..all I could think about when my head was hung over the big white telephone..or was that yellow? Makes me shudder to this day. Ok, so I am packing lots of gravol and Immodium and tylenol, and gaviscon and you name it...mosquito repellent.

Started out a pretty perfect winter day this morning... the sun came up over the mountains for a postcard picture!
Christmas day was all good! We opened gifts with Sonia and Annette over the phone.. someday we'll get Skype all sorted out ,then we could see and hear whats going on!
Emil and I donned our X country skiis and played Santa as we skiied to the neighbours dolling out and receiving Christmas cheer! It was snowing like crazy out as we made our way along Erindale road to Pete and Ellis, then back to Deb and Ashly's and then across the beach to Mike and Alissa's, then back home again, home again, home again...yes, we were like snow bunnies by then! My new wickaway socks and Gators and Gloves worked perfect! Thank you Sonia and Annette for the great presents! Once the turkey was in the oven,w e hit the hot-tub and thawed out for an hour or so! Dinner was quiet, and yummy, but afterwards, Deb and Ashly and their visitors, Tracy and Steve , came over for a few drinks... All in all it was a pleasant day, tho Christmas isn't the same without our beautiful daughters and grandaughters... It won't be long before summer arrives and we can be a big happy family again...at our house!
Love you all and hope to see or talk to many of you over the next few days.
I heard from Morgan that Ian is getting it figured out, that the pony is his and will be coming to Edmonton in the spring...
In the meantime, Joyce took off for Kamloops this morning and should be about there now... Hope so before he snow and weather kicks in...
Happy holidays to everyone..It has been a slice! Lynn comes out tomorrow, when we will hit the x-country trail on the beach again!

Pony Boy Via B, a la Morgan and Joyce

"The Creator"

Hi Correna and Karen... I hope this does the trick... Turn off the music in my playlist, so you can hear Morgan talk... if all else fails one can view it in large format on the computer... or connect the computer to the tv somehow...Other than that, check out the download...it should be possible. He's a very cute pony. I can upload the pics to a web album also.Ok, this must be quite a huge video becasue it is taking a loooooong time to upload. Now that it is done, I'll see what else can be done with it, but not tonight. I can upload the photos to a webalbum tomorrow night... good luck, or we can try something else. B.
