Visit with Auntie Mary today

Well, well, it was a beautiful day today as Joyce and I drove up to Nakusp for a little visit with our sweet Auntie Mary. She was waiting at the door...saying to us just that: "I was waiting and waiting for you to come! " She was so happy the tears were streaming ,not just down her face,
but ours, as well. We had big hugs and then it was time for tea and muffins and fresh strawberries that Joyce and I brought up to her. She put the bean soup and the apple pie in the fridge for a snack later, and then we chatted,ate and drank tea ,and she showed us her knitting.
She made 17 pairs of mittens this fall for all the kids! If we are half as spry as her at that age, we will all be blessed!
Unfortunately, she took a fall out of bed the other night and still had bandages on her shins where she spilt the skin open. Poor Aunty... she is lucky she didn't break a bone!

She took us on a big tour of Halcyon place,where she stays,and it looks like a clean and roomy facility with lots of spaces for visitors and residents. They are up to 18 0r 19 residents now,where they were talking closure. The need is so great that residents come from as far as Grand-Forks, due to lack of space in their area.

After we said our goodbyes, Joyce drove me up to the Nakusp Hot-springs and we both headed to the hot pools for a nice long soak! Did that ever feel wonderful! There were few people in the pool, but as we were leaving, more people began arriving. It was a good form of relaxation on Valentines day!

This is the hot pool...and it was around 110* I think...it cooked me in a few minutes!


By the time that we were well pruned, we were also quite starved. Nakusp has a great little Organic restaurant on a side street(2nd?)..can't recall the name...but the food there is terrific for a light lunch. We had a beautiful Chanterelle Mushroom Curry soup and a procuito & cheese and red pepper whole wheat panini... oh- yum yum! Generous servings, fresh, brightly garnished and served all in quick order. Filled us up enough that we had to by-pass the case of amazing looking cakes and deserts!

The drive home was pleasant, the daylight lasted and now it is back to reality...I've done a load of wash, cleaned up and sorted out things, took chicken wings out for tomorrow and ate a nice bowl of the bean soup that I took up to Auntie.
Joyce and I had a great day and it reminds me that I should go up more often, as Auntie was sooooo happy to have us visit. That's our last Auntie, so we should learn a little more from her while we can.
