More Magazine...for women over forty and those who can't remember anything

More Magazine
If you haven't broused a copy of this relatively new mag, then I suggest you pick up a copy and enjoy it from cover to cover... I like the section called Body and Mind. It gives you tips on how to know when to be worried about memory lapses...You should be worried if things like your car keys turn up in unlikely spots like the sugar-bowl... Go to alzheimers.ca and click on "common Questions"
If you think memory loss has something to do with decreased levels of hormones...you are right. Estradiol, a particular type of estrogen,,is produced in decreased amounts during menopause and Estradiol is produced in abundance..as much as 100 times as much during pregnancy...Studies have shown, tho, not conclusive, that the estradiol affects the "working"memory...the one you need when you are trying to recall where exactly you parked the car. Not all Hormone replacement therapy contains estradiol. Premarin, for example, may actually double the odds of increased memory loss. So too, may a bad knock on the old head, so buckle up, wear a seatbelt, and take care of the noggin, by wearing a helment if you are indulging in fast neck-breaking sports.

The next article is from women who have had about enough with the cancer thing..being a "Survivor", wearing cutsie pink ribbons, drinking pink colas and eating pink yogurt and contributing to one more Relay for Life. They are sick of friends phoning them every time one of their relatives comes down with cancer, and they are sick of hearing about so and so's friend who died from the exact same cancer as what you have...at the same age , no less. They are sick of insensitive people who ask if you are "Done with all that" Done like a cake...are you ever done once you have cancer?

Also, there are fashion tips and down to earth stories about real women... so I like the Magazine.

Being away for two weeks, put me way behind on reading my MAgazines. I read at least four today to do a little catching up. I read them while I was having a nice Jacuzzi with my 2nd NAture Muscle soak, to loosen up my stiff neck muscles. It isn't very easy to read and drink a cup of tea and eat an orange, all while you are having a soak in the tub, but I did it,and the magazines are a bit soggy, but who cares...at least none of them fell in the water. Last time, my good Metropploitan Home took a dive and the pages started dropping off one by one from both the front and the back of the magazine, until it was only a slim edition with half of each story. The rest of the pages were in a mangled mess as I fished them out of the water and tossed them on my bathroom floor. Needless to say, that magazine never made it to the doc's office.

Oh yes, back to the reason my neck was so sore... I went cross country skiing, or should I say Ski -hiking yesterday with Leah and Sharon and Bud and SueG. We went up to the BAlfour golf course at 11:00am and it was snowing pretty good. Because Leah and I arrived first and no -one else was in site, we just took off from the main building and headed towards number one tee box.

This makes me wonder now, where exactly did the pond go that used to be right there?

ANyhow, the snow was so incredibley deep and no-one had skiied there for days that Leah was breaking trail in the fresh snow and I was plodding behind, By the third fairway, she said you lead. If I wasn't the size of a tuna, it would be easy to lift up the knees and try to keep the skis on top of the snow, but for some reason, probably related to weight, the tips of my skis were plunging into the snow, looking for hell, I suppose. In two strides, my skis were buried, skiing under the snow, instead of on top. This was not x-country skiing, but more like ski-shoeing, if there is such a thing.
After a half hour of plodding, Sharon finally came along, followed by another couple, and then Bud and Sue. By then, we were under the tree canopy where the snow was less than a foot deep. Leah had to wax up her skiis, s o we let the other couple plough ahead... HA! They cut their trip short and headed back to the parking lot!

Bud and Sharon led, leaving a perfect imprint with snow a foot high in a perfect ridge between the two ski tracks. I think the ridge of excess snow gave me problems...or the Tuna factor, because we had hardly started, and over I went.."Ploop" right into the snowbank. I had to disengage the ski from my boot , before I could begin to get upright. Even this small task, while lying on your side, is not all that easy!

We had to eventually navigate uphill ,thru what turned out to be a ditch or hole under the snow. I slid backwards and the back ends of my skiis beacame firmly planted in two feet of wet snow, with the fronts sticking upwards ,until I toppled over. Again, I had to disengage shoe from ski to get myself stood up...on hill, and in a ditch. I carried my ski to the top, and put it on up there.... then skiied ten feet and lost my balance and flipped backwards into the snowbank...onto my back, skis under me. I needed Sharon to give me a hand to stand up this time... Everyone was laughing hysterically when I yelled" The Tuna is down!"

I'm grateful , to Bud, as he led us to the road finally.
Once on the packed flat surface, the wet snow packed onto the bottom of my both skiis, and as I tried to knock off the snow from one ski, the other ski magically took off and "PHLattt" there I was , being the tuna for one last time... and my butt hurt! I suspect my neck and shoulder muscles all worked harder than they ever had in ten years to get myself upright so many times...hence the need for the soak in the tub tonight! And I do feel much better, thanks!
The nice thing about skiing with this pleasant group is that we always go for a hearty lunch aftwards... so off to the BBI we all went and had some warm food.... to help with the chilly willies.

Our dinner guests cancelled last night and instead, Deb and Ashley came over around 9;00pm or later, for a rip snorting game of Train! We had so many laughs... and I won...Yippee! We didn't call it a night till nearly 2:00 in the morning...crazy folk!

Today was kind of a slow day, but I got about ten or more pieces of mail, including two parcels all ready to mail out tomorrow, on my way to work... so keep and eye on your mailbox! I said ten pieces of mail...not thirty!

Tomorrow I have to head into Trail for an appointment, then we ( cause Emil is coming with me) are going to visit Lynn and Bob for dinner... How nice! I haven't seen her since before we went away.

Emil is sick of snow removal and needs to get out of the cabin, I think!

Speaking of Emil, I am having a retirement/birthday party for him on Sunday,June 29th.... so get your tent or trailer all ready and come on up for the weekend. The party will be on the Sunday and we'll play some beach games , if we have a beach, and do some tubing if we have a dock... No gifts, just come and have fun. He'll be glad to see all of our special friends and rellies, especially those who couldn't make it to the HEU retirement party. That is the week-end that runs into the July long week-end , so it might be a long party...bring extra refreshments ! I'll send out a reminder or give a call before then,...this is just a heads up. Looking forward to it... Keep all of your retirement jokes for then! Have a good week...don't know when I'll next be back...

I have this much to say every day, but tiredness prevails after work and dinner and then I peeter out...and Facebook is draining my energy... so many things to check out... I like the way I can message real quick, but I can do without a zillion of the aps. Don't be offended if I don't participate in the booze mail and that stupid dog and then the CTRL ALT 4 to see who is looking at your site... what a bunch of bullsh*t. That just closes Facebook. booo-hiss-boo . That dog has been deleted!
