Sunny Saturday

The sun was too much for Silky...so she was squinting for most of the day!

Our fire pit is still filled with water so Ashley brought his burner over and we lit a fire in there... The burner works awesome and even threw off a lot of heat later int he evening when it cooled down. We roasted smokies followed by schmores and filled ourselves up until we were nearly all napping!

Emil was having fun!

And once the ducks learned of the free treats and hot-dog buns , they also attended the picnic on the beach

A few doors down, at Chris's house, just in front of Ann and Dicks, the wind blew over this massive tree, squishing the little trailer that lie underneath it. Chris will have a job delimbing and burning all the limbs... That was the storm that ripped through hear on Thursday!

We had a surprise visit from Leo and Sandra (not in the photo)and Laverne(centre) on Saturday in their very cool pontoon Party boat... made to relax in and to drink in ,and to have lots of fun in... can seat about 7 or 8 people comfortably. We sat on the boat and had a few refreshments and proceeded to get seriously sun burned on my legs....no problemo...as long as I don't plan on wearing shorts for the next month!

Later, Ashley and Deb came over to enjoy the day on the beach... It was so beautiful and HOT! We never got so cooked that we needed a swim...but I came very close! Note the tents in the background at Tom's place. His grandson got married there today. Leo noted that they had "Real " tents!
An immature bald eagle kept circling around in a chase after a seagull that had caught a baby fissh and deposited it on the beach to die... I think the seagull ate the fish before the eagle came in for dinner!

Now you can see that they set up round tables with fine white linens...it all looked very beautful. Emil watched a bit of the wedding today from Deb and Ashley's balcony and noted that the flower girl ran away back to the house and the bride had to carry the ring-bearer down to the beach... He said it was all pretty funny!
Oh yes, note the wheelbarrow??? The son of the dipstick next door actually saw Emil cleaning up the beach, and the son rounded up who he couls and they all raked and picked up sticks and made their beach look decent for a change.. I am glad one of them has common sense!

Happy July 1st...

My gift to Emil...a new sign for our driveway... and thank-you so much to Ron for building the beautiful sign -post...amazing! We'll be getting that baby in its place within the next few days! Thanks Ron

They came, they laughed, they cried, as we heard stories and thanks from Emil as he opened the many thoughtful gifts..He was delighted to see everyone and was just so pleased that people came!

More speeches from Emil before he cut the cake

Playing a few games..of course the guys did a little cheating

They won anyhow, and here they are in their prize sunglasses!

I am so happy that our big Retire day Party was a great success this week-end with so many of Emil's best friends ( and relatives..still best friends) taking time out of their busy lives to come up to our great celebration that seemed to go for quite a few days! Thank-you to one and all for attending, and for all of your terrific help! Everyone just pitched in and served and sorted and chopped and mixed and did the dishes... I am so grateful to all of you, as I couldn't have done it by myself! I especially want to thank Sonia and Lynn and Joyce for their untiring assistance! I don't want to cry, but we are so blessed to have such a wonderful collection of family and friends who travelled long hours to get here and share in the fun!

Annette called to say that her and Scott made it home safely , but not before a big hail storm in Manning Park where the hail stones were coming down so fast and furious that the whole line of cars pulled off the road and waited until the storm subsided...Whew! Sounds bad!
They made it home safe and sound! Tough for all of you who had to travel up and back home again in two or three days...much appreciated!
Well, I could write a bucket, but I am pooped...have to return to work after a lovely five day stretch off...retirement must be nice!

Matthew's brother, Ryan was a big surprise showing up for Matthew's big day. We all enjoyed Ryan strumming and singing the blues with Jessica's friend, Roger... A pretty sharp duo and they didn't even know each other before that day!
Click on the video to get a sense of how good they were...Thanks you two!
Ryan is stage manager for blues singer Susan Tedeschi. Today they played the jaz festival in Victoria and tomorrow they will be in Vancouver at the VAncouver jazz festival.

Good bye party for Sue

The weekend zoomed by with a great deal of fun! Cousin Lynn popped over on Friday and met me after work for a look see at the grand opening of the New Craft Connection...in the old Godrey's store on Baker. The store , of course was completely renovated and now is a beautiful example of what a restoration of Nelson's old heritage building can look like without losing the integrity of the architexcture... In places, the old rock is still exposed on the walls, especially in the gallery downstairs. The space looked terrific with nice white walls integrated with the exposed huge rocks. The art looked great too, and anyone looking for a different "Made in Nelson gift" should check out the new Craft Connection.
Lynn and I had a delicious meal at the Redfish grill to end the night, before heading home.

On Saturday, Lynn helped me with so many cleaning projects, to get ready for the party, that I am dearly greatful to have her in my life. By Saturday night, the hosue was spic and span and we were ready to go to Sharon's for a farewell party for Sue ( the gal in the orange) who is leaving to move to Maine Island , in the gulf islands.
Most of our "Badminton" group were there and the night was a howl as we told stories and teased each other and had loads of laughs. We'll miss Sue in our little group, and I am sure that her neighbours, Deb and Connie, will miss her too.

From the left, Sue, Pearl, Lynn and Marna

from the left, Carol, another Sue, Deb, and yet one more Sue...also known as the "Princess"

We are at Sharon's house ( she is n the green on the left) and here we have presented Sue with some parting gifts

This was the creme de la creme... a beuatiful photo by Pat Macloughlin of Kokanee park...which backs onto Sues property.

So today, Sunday, started out beautiful and sunny and has just gone downhill to thunder and a rainstorm. Lynn left to go back home and I will make one more struedal for the party, then try to head outside. I am so disappointed that dispite the new fence, the deer still got into my garden and ate the flower off the iris and devoured at least four or five lillies... breaks my heart.
I will go and put a net over the remainder once again... boo f-hoo.

If you can't view my blog, it is because there is some sort of bug that came last Thursday and I can't get rid of it, just yet. The blog can be viewed by clicking on the Feed burner box that comes in my emails.
