Buenas Notches

Ok, I have uploaded a selection of pics in a slideshow fromt he first half of our trip... and then I missed out a bunch, but between here and facebook, you should get the idea that we had great weather, great fun and awesome food...not to mention meeting some beautiful Canadians that were there for the same reasons... Don't get me wrong, we understand the peril the country is in, and we brought as many goodies to give away as we could pack...handing out goodie bags to the maids, the gardeners and the busboys,as well as waiters and waitresses. Emil left behind a good number of shirts, his holy shoes and his leather sandals. Me, on the other hand didn't part with shoes, but gave away all sorts of little items we brought with us..plus hard to get items like aspirin and mosquitoe repellent..and toothpaste.. Everyone was so greatful and overjoyed that we were indeed touched by the people of Cuba. They are a fine and friendly group, striving to make the best of what they have. I don't know the politics of the tourist trade, but to me, it seems that it is one of the few bright lights in the country that is bringing money into the country, and in the way of tips, it brings the money right into the hands of workers....who in turn are able to build themselves a house perhaps, that other wise wouldn't be affordable.
Emil , the good soul, handed out chicklets to every worker he saw, morning noon and night...or we bought the towel shack boys a cold beer during the heat of the day, or gave the gardeners a cold pop to drink. These gestures made the day for some of those workers who get passed by without as much as a "Hola" from many people. I hope our visit there, shed a good light on Canadians, who make up the bulk of the visitors. Now we need to clean up after ourselves...so many people left plastic glasses on the beach,or in the pools, or even ripped the beautiful big beach towels. There is no need for that sort of behaviour, no matter which part of Canada you come from... Be like Emil...take your Big Bubba Mug...( no need to refill so often) ,take a 24 pack of chicklets to hand out one at a time, and bring plenty to give away, because imported goods are astromnomically expensive for the common people to buy. Wait till I put my review on Trip Advisor... the place to check if you are heading out into the unknown!
I'll try to get some videos posted tomorrow...especially of emil in the Conga line...
