Road Kings Car show today

Look at some of these beauties lining Baker Street all day today. People came from all over with their beautiful cars to show them off! Tonight there is a huge dance on the top of the parkade with the "Hot Rods" playing, from Thunder Bay Ontario! Should be a blast, but I'll be home in my snuglie bed.

Happy Birthday to Shayne and Nadine

Hey there neice and nephew... Its your big day again! How is it, that a brother and sister were born on the same day? Did your mom and dad ever answer that one??

At least she waited a few years between the two of you! So Shayne turns 36 and Nadine turns 33! Hard to believe all those years have gone by so quick and now each of you are parents and enjoying your young families that are all so cute. In fact, Lynn has to be so proud that she is the leader of us all in total grandchildren! Way to go, Shayne and Nadine!

SO each of you, have a Happy Birthday from us and we'll have some yummy martini together. Here is the recipe for it... POM brand , pomagranite juice , shaken with that Blue Sapphire gin, over ice, and poured over a few tablespoons of pomagranite seeds in a martini glass. Now that is very yummy. And if we can't make that, then we'll have a beer! Love ya both... Auntie B.

Now here is a little Elvis for you from the party last week-end..

Ron and Phoebe's big Birthday Party

Lawrence doing the carving of the pork...now that was dee-licious!

Phoebe gasping at the stories she was hearing about Ron "Stdying all of his lunch hour, behind the school-house with some girl!

Look how happy Phoebe is with her boguet of flowers from Sheree
(Da Family Heirloom done come back!) Watch out everyone!

They look a bit tired, but believe me, they were embraced in a big kiss moments after!

Yeppers... 80 big reasons to celebrate...and about as many guests

Phoebe's daughter, Lori and her hubby LAwrence.( Emil's brother).. nice to see them both and them paly and sing music again! Thank-you for the great entertainment!

Phoebe and Ron's grandkids and one great grandson...Nathaniel
so from left to right... Bruce, married to Kim( in the green skirt), Kendall, Cynthia, Shawn, oh-oh...don't know is peeking over, then there is Ryan, in the yellow shirt and Jamie on the right end.

The three bros...and two of them are married to daughters of Ron and Phoebe... John to Ronda, and LAwrence to Lori... and then theire is Emil who is married to me , of course!

Here we all are...Emil, Moi, John, Ronda, Lawrence, and Lori

The event was grand, and for a good reason too... Ron and Phoebe will both celebrate their 80th birthday this year and neither look even 65 years old! Way to go for keeping young... must all of that Heirloom stuff!!!!
Cathy did an amazing job at organizing all the decorations, and food and who was to be where, when, and it all turned out perfect! The signs were up, welcoming everyone to Paradise , and Ron and Phoebe's yard looked like Paradise... Parrots hanging off the trees, Tiki Bar set up and even a palm tree or two. Every guest was greeted by getting "leighed" and signing the guest book ,and donning a straw hat if you didn't come with one!
We drove our boat down and planned a camp-out in the boat's cutty! I must say, it worked very well!
The yard was filled with 5th wheels and trailers, and in front of Lawrence and Lori's place, Shawn had his DJ centre set up with tropical music! All of Ron and Phoebe's siblings came to the party, so that was a marvel unto itself! Ron's brother, told us an hour's worth of funny stories about Ron on the farm when they were kids... the funniest one being that they had to bring their dad home from the hospital in -55* temps... they had the horses noses covered with burlap and warm blankets to cover dad and when they got home, their mom had biscuits and dinner all ready. "Dad took one look at the dinner, and exclaimed" Where in the hell did we get MEAT???"
Ma says... "yep, we have meat now, but no milk!"
The winter was so cold and snowy that the wind had blown big drifts clear up one side of the barn right to the roof top. With the-55* weather, it froze into a solid block, and their cow, being none the wiser, took a stroll up the frozen snowbank and straight onto the roof of the barn. The roof was old and what do you know? The damn cow broke through the roof and fell into the barn and broke all her legs..!! Meat-but no Milk!
We all laughed and laughed... the stories kept coming and we all laughed some more!

The food was amazing...loads of salads and best of all, a whole roast pig...now that was yummy. LAwrence did the honours of cutting it up and everyone ate their share and more and I think there was still pork left over.

It wouldn't be a Laybourne get-together without some music involved, so LAwrence set it all up and his buddy from Trail joined him and Ryan played bass, while Lori opened with the Tennessee Waltz. Her soulful croons had nearly everyone in tears, as Ron and Phoebe waltzed to their song. Speaking of Tennessee, Ronda's daughter, Jessica, known as Taryn Murphy, took the stage and sang with all her heart one of her songs...she might be short, but she has one heck of a set of lungs. In between, LAwrence and his buddy kept the music coming , and then Lori would get in there to sing beautiful "Summertime", then it was Lawrence's buddy donning an Elvis wig to croon some more.
Just when we thought we had heard it all, up steps Jamie to the mike, and starts belting out a Johnny Cash fav...Starting off with "We got married in a fever" Hotter than a Pepper's sprout!"

Well, we laughed till we cried!

I'll upload some video clips of the variety of music, over the next few days.
Ryan ws the dark horse of the group, so to speak. As stage manager for Susan Tedesco, he certainly knows the blues, and when he started to sing his bluesy number, everyone drew quiet and listened as he picked and strummed and gave it his all. I think he is the one to watch in the near future! He was goooooooood!

Now I am tired and need to go to bed... Lets just say it was a fabulous party, and we had great visits with everyone...got to meet Shawn's fiance, Cynthia and her parents, and Chris and his girlfriend too, and it was sure nice to have Jamie there... we had a lot of laughs and hopes that it isn't so long before we meet again.

Uncle Paul,sad news

Thanks Eva for sending me this nice picture of Uncle Paul, taken this summer when Eva went to visit him and Auntie, in Nakusp. Sad to say, Uncle Paul, passed away Thursday night , August 28th after a long battle with leukemia. We will all miss his wide smile and his welcoming arms that gave us a big hug every time we stopped in for a little visit. He always made us feel welcome and special, whether it had been a year or a month since we last visited... You could always count on him being so happy to see us. The door opened and he would say "Come on in!" and from there he's always be interested in what we were doing or where we were working. Auntie would bring out the borsht and we would share more tales over the lunch table, then follow it up with cookies and tea...and he loved those cookies!
I'll miss him. He was an Uncle you could count on...always there, and now, we'll have to believe he has gone to a higher place where the voices will sing for him as they say "Come on in!"
Funeral will take place on Friday, September 5th at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel at 10:00am, with interment to follow at the Kinnaird /Castlegar cemetary.
